Micki Strawinski is well-known as an energetic – and frugal – volunteer around town. She always manages to get the most “bang for the buck” in her public service efforts. Micki has extensive Red Hook School and Town volunteer experience. She joined the Red Hook Secondary Schools Community Association in 1998 and became its Vice President in the 2000 – 2001 school year. During that year, SSCA reorganized to become the Red Hook Parent Teacher Student Association, aligning itself with the state and national PTA. Micki served an additional year as Vice President before being nominated and voted in as President and served for three years.
Ms. Strawinski also served on the district Committee for Special Education as a parent representative (child advocate) for several years and was a parent member of the Friends of Andrew Byrne committee which was responsible for forming the idea of a community awareness garden after the DWI death of Andrew Byrne. For two years, she actively participated in the “We Care, Please Quit” campaign to combat smoking by students on school property.
Micki formed the committee for the “Ruth Oja Scholarship Fund”, an award given annually to a graduating senior from Red Hook High School who plans to pursue a degree in environmental science, conservation or forestry. She is an active member of the Red Hook Greenway and Trails Committee and has 26 years of administrative experience in a variety of fields from home building to medical office management to teaching assistant.
“With better communication and more cooperation between School and Town Boards we can make better choices about how we grow our Town and maintain our schools’ excellence.” – Micki Strawinski
